The series got started on Thursday afternoon with a thrilling game one in Omaha. Creighton took a 1-0 lead after the first inning when Alex Staehely’s two out double scored Brad McKewon. Tommy Strunc battled in and out of trouble in his five-plus innings of work. Strunc ran into issues in the sixth, leaving when Bryan Sova was asked to keep the inherited runners at bay, which resulted in two runs coming into score. The Bluejays tied the game up in the bottom of the sixth inning when McKewon was scored on a Jake Peter RBI single.

Creighton tied the game up in the bottom of the fourth when Fowler’s RBI triple scored Peter. With the game tied at two in the ninth, Peter came into pitch where he surprisingly allowed the go-ahead run to score with two outs in the ninth. CU went out quietly in their half of the ninth.

Saturday, May 18 – Missouri State (30-21, 12-9) 3 Creighton (30-16, 13-8) 6

Unlike the first two games, MSU scored first in the series finale, but the lead was short lived as Ben Lahn’s single scored Lamb to tie the game up. Trailing 2-1, CU got back-to-back walks from Federico Castagnini and Peter. Staehely followed up by reaching on a fielder’s choice, but two runs came into score when the Bears starting pitcher overthrew third base. The Bluejays tacked on another run in the third and added two more in the sixth. Senior Mark Winkleman got the start and no decision. Matt Warren bounced back from his midweek loss to Nebraska, picking up the win, and Sova recorded another save.

Next game: With the series win Creighton (30-16, 13-8) is the third seed in Normal, Illinois starting Tuesday at 9 am against the six seed Indiana State (24-23, 9-11).
