Creighton Announces New Radio Home
Posted Jun 28, 2013
1620 the Zone replaces 590 AM as the radio home for Creighton men's basketball.
On Friday, Creighton athletics announced that Bluejay basketball has a new radio home for the 2013-14 season. The Jays are moving from longtime home of AM590 to 1620 the Zone, which already is the home for baseball, women’s basketball and volleyball.
The Zone and Creighton athletics broadcast agreement is for three years beginning this fall, which is the school’s first in the Big East Conference. 1620 is Omaha’s top-rated sports station with local shows Gary Sharp and Damon Benning “Sharp and Benning” from 7-11 am in the morning, and the long-running show “Unsportsmanlike Conduct” with John Bishop and Mike’l Severe from 2-6 pm.
These shows can be streamed live on 1620thezone.com and on the 1620 the Zone smartphone apps.
“We chose 1620 The Zone for many reasons, but mainly because it has long been considered Omaha’s premier sports talk radio station. Its lineup, its commitment to local sports coverage, and its rank in the market made it the perfect partner for broadcasting our programs,” explained Creighton Athletic Director Bruce Rasmussen.
An announcement on who’ll the radio talent will be for Creighton men’s basketball will be made in the near future.
