After losing to St. Johns, the Jays rebounded with a sweep of Seton Hall.
Jays Tamed Wildcats and Hoyas
Friday, the Jays swept Villanova (12-12, 4-7 BIG EAST) and overcame a one set deficit to Georgetown (10-15, 4-8 BIG EAST), winning in four on Saturday.
CU beat Villanova by scores of 25-21, 25-21, 25-21, hitting .269 in the three sets. Creighton's high was .419 with 16 kills on 31 attacks. The block also was big for the team, outhitting the Wildcats 12-5 in the match.
Leah McNary led the Bluejays with 12 kills in the three-set match that took only 88 minutes to complete. Jess Bird had nine kills of her own, while Lauren Smith added seven. Ashley Jansen stepped up for Michelle Sicner, who was unable to go by dishing out 29 assists.
Saturday, the Jays were back at it in our nation's capital, taking on the Hoyas to conclude the weekend. Georgetown won the opener 25-18 before Creighton won the next three 25-22, 25-22 and 25-21.
Offensive leaders for CU were Jereb, McNary and Bird who combined for 36 kills with 12 apiece. Again filling in for Sicner, Jansen found her teammates 39 times.
Like Friday night in Philly, the CU block was on point with an 19-7 advantage over the Hoyas. They also kept Georgetown to .120 hitting as a team through the four-set match. The home team started off hitting .250 but decreased each set after .146, .067 and .062.
Creighton will face both teams the final weekend of the regular season in a couple weeks in Omaha. Next weekend, the Jays return to the East Coast, facing St. John'S Friday night and Seton Hall on Saturday. The Bluejays lost to Red Storm in five sets in their previous meeting, but swept the Pirates two weeks ago at D.J. Sokol Arena.
