Jays Take Series from Gophers in Florida
Game 1: Creighton (0-4) 5 v. Minnesota (4-0) 10
Creighton got on the scoreboard first, scoring four runs in the top of the first inning on Jake Peter's triple that scored Brad McKewon. Over the next two innings, both teams scored a run, and the Bluejays led 5-1 after three. It was a six-run outburst by Minnesota that put the Gophers ahead 7-6, knocking Taylor Elman out of the game. In the bottom of the eighth, the Gophers put three more runs on the board.
Game 2: Creighton (1-4) 11 v. Minnesota (4-1) 4
Tommy Strunc only lasted 1.1 innings but was helped out by fellow pitcher Matt Warren, who pitched 6.2 innings in the 11-4 win. The top of the lineup, McKewon, Tommy Clouthier and Peter, combined for five RBI. Clouthier drove in three runs on a homer in the Bluejays four-run fourth inning that helped turn a 3-2 advantage into a 7-2 cushion. Four more runs were scored by CU, one in the sixth and three more in the ninth inning, to get the team's first win of the season.
Game 3: Creighton (2-4) 8 Minnesota (4-2) 0
Sunday's game decided who'd leave Fort Myers with a series victory. Creighton pounded out eight runs on 11 hits, taking the two of three games from Minnesota. Five pitchers combined for the shutout behind starter Jeff Albrecht, who went three innings. Austin Groth (2.0), John Oltman (1.1), Nick Highberger (1.2) and Bryan Sova (1.0) relieved the freshman from Omaha. Peter had another good day, going 3-for-4 and driving in two runs.
