Weather again forced schedule changes for the Creighton baseball team who hosted Butler in BIG EAST play this weekend. The teams played a single game on Friday and then two on Saturday with the Jays posting another sweep.
Game 1: Butler (16-24, 4-6) 1 v. Creighton (21-13-1) 8
Matt Warren put up another solid outing in the series opener, throwing seven innings, yielding one run on six hits. Butler fell behind early, allowing four runs in the first, two in the second and one each in the third and fourth innings. Four Jays drove in runs led by Reagan Fowler's 4 for 4 day. Jake Peter, Mike Gerber and Brett Murray drove in runs for the Jays. The Bulldogs helped CU out, committing two errors.
Game 2: Butler (16-25, 4-7) 1 v. Creighton (22-13-1) 2
Taylor Elman, who made his second start this week, gave his team a solid outing. Elman went seven innings on 88 pitches in the no decision, allowing just one run and striking out four. Bryan Sova pitched the final two innings, striking out two and not allowing a hit. Tied at one going to the bottom of the ninth inning, Ryan Fitzgerald who had two hits, led off with a single. Peter sacrificed him to second, which was followed by a Gerber fly out. Fowler then came up with two outs and singled up the middle giving CU a walk-off win.
Game 3: Butler (16-26, 4-8) 2 v. Creighton (23-13-1) 4
The series finale saw Creighton jump out in front again with runs in the second and fifth innings, making it 3-0. Jeff Albrecht started and went 6.1 innings and allowed two runs on four hits in his first win. Fowler continued his home tear going 3 for 4, scoring two runs and driving one in. Kevin Lamb helped provide offense, going 2 for 3 with two RBI and ensuring a weekend sweep to stay on top of the conference.
Next up for the Bluejays is game three of their season series with in-state rival Nebraska on Tuesday evening. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 pm at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha with CBS Sports Network proving TV coverage.
