LAS VEGAS -- Booker Woodfox scored 26 points to lead Creighton over DePaul, 83-75, in the championship game of the Las Vegas Classic on Tuesday night.
Woodfox, who was selected the tournament MVP, went 5-of-9 from 3-point range for the Bluejays (10-2), who have won seven straight.
Sophomore forward Dar Tucker led
DePaul
(7-5) with a career-high 32 points. Tucker was 12-of-22 from the field and grabbed six rebounds. Sophomore center
Mac Koshwal
had 13 points and a career-high 22 rebounds for the Blue Demons.
Koshwal was named to the All-Tournament team and was joined by teammate
Jabari Currie
, who scored 10 points.
Will Walker
added 12 for the Blue Demons.
After the Bluejays led 62-48 with 11:21 left, the Blue Demons cut the lead to 75-73 with 2:20 remaining. But Woodfox's basket with 1:01 to go and his two free throws with 29 seconds remaining gave
Creighton
a six-point lead.
Creighton was 18-of-19 from the free throw line, while DePaul was 13-of-24. DePaul outrebounded Creighton 42-28 but had 18 turnovers.
Notable
Dar Tucker became the 27th player in school history to score 32 or more points in a game and he is now tied for the 50th-best single game offensive performance in DePaul history.
Tucker became the first Blue Demon to score 30 or more points since
Draelon Burns
tossed in 31 against
West Virginia
on February 27, 2008.
Mac Koshwal’s 22 rebounds was tied for the fifth-best single game effort in DePaul history and he is one of five Blue Demons to grab 22 or more caroms in a game.
The last time a DePaul player had 20 or more rebounds in a game was when
Andre Brown
grabbed 27 boards at
TCU
on February 6, 2002.
DePaul finished second in a regular season tournament for the first time since the 2003
Michigan State
Invitational.
Up Next
DePaul plays its final non-conference game of the 2008-09 season when Alcorn State comes to the Allstate Arena for a 1 p.m. (CST) game.
